After four Commencements, the Brown Alumni Association's Bring a Book to Brown program has distributed more than 7,000 books to Providence children....The education department celebrated a century of teacher training at Brown with a panel discussion at a Saturday forum titled "Teacher Education for the 21st Century: Lessons from the Past, Direction for the Future." Moderated by Professor of Education Carl Kaestle, the discussion included honorary-degree recipient Theodore R. Sizer; Sonia Nieto, a professor of education at the University of Massachusetts; and David Tyack, professor education at Stanford....A portrait of former president Vartan Gregorian was unveiled in Sayles Hall....Artemis A.W. Joukowsky '55 celebrated his final Commencement as chancellor; Stephen Robert '62 assumed the position on June 30, when Joukowsky became the University's first ambassador.
