Conundrum

We were saddened to see an elm on the Green had fallen on the Patrick Dougherty sculpture (Under the Elms, March/April). The picture is quite silent, but there must have been sound involved at the moment it occurred.

This raises the question, posed by our son Abe (Columbia '06); asking,

"If a tree falls on sculpture and no one is around to hear it, is it Art??"
