Freshmen this summer read Sons of Providence, Charles Rappleye’s biography of brothers John and Moses Brown. While John made a fortune in the triangle trade, Moses, a Quaker, fought to abolish slavery. President Paxson was one of many faculty members to lead discussions of the book, chosen to inaugurate Brown’s Center for the Study of Slavery and Justice.
