A jury in Rhode Island Superior Court cleared Brown of any wrongdoing in the 1990 suicide death of Daniel Shuster, then a student at Brown; the lawsuit was filed by Shuster’s mother, who alleged that the University had made a negligent psychological referral....Adjunct Professor of English Robert Coover and Professor of Computer Science Andries van Dam were inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences; fellow inductees included Apple Computer founder Steven Jobs and movie director George Lucas....Cynthia E. Frost, a portfolio strategist for Duke Management Company, was named Brown’s first-ever chief investment officer, and Walter C. Hunter, a partner at Edwards & Angell, was named vice president for administration....Professor of Physics and Engineering Humphrey Maris proposed at the International Conference on Quantum Fluids and Solids that it is possible to split electrons....Former anthropology concentrator and now former Survivor contestant Greg Buis ’99 was voted off the island during the July 19 episode of the CBS hit television series.
