Furl it!
I was intrigued by the decision a young woman from the class of 2007 faced: to spend a year with AmeriCorps or be an assistant manager at a Providence bakery (Here & Now, September/October). I thought I knew how she would choosebut unfortunately I was wrong. I would have advised her to choose the AmeriCorps offer, because I believe everyone has an obligation to give service to a country that has given us so much. I am floored that the only advice she received was follow your heart. What is it with young people today? Is she typical of Brown graduatesmore interested in money than service to others? I hope not.
