On January 14, the NASA spacecraft Messenger flew by Mercury, taking this and other photos of the planet's surface. Professor of Geological Sciences James Head '69 PhD leads the international team of geologists analyzing the trove of incoming images, along with several of his students. "This is pioneering work," Head says. "We'll be seeing terrain no human has ever seen before."
