Brown and Jews

May 23rd, 2008

I read with disgust about the suspected hate action against the Israeli worker at Brown/RISD Hillel ("A Criminal Act," Here & Now, March/April). I enrolled at Brown in September 1957 and most likely was the first Israeli student who attended its graduate school.

I found the school and its student body extremely amicable and hospitable, and at no time did I sense or encounter derogatory action for my Israeli origin. On the contrary, I was very honored by the unique attention given me by President Barnaby Conrad Keeney, who traveled to Israel and visited my parents in Jerusalem.

I hope that hatred and racism do not find ears and sponsors in this honorable institution.
