It was interesting to read two different articles addressing race relations issues in the March/April BAM ("A Nation of Jailers," "Ask Yourself"). Here in Jefferson City, Missouri, we are taking steps toward creating interhuman harmony. CURE (Congregations United for Racial Equity) for years has sponsored an annual service of hope. One year an African American minister addresses a European American congregation. The next year, a white minister addresses a black congregation.

The Jefferson City Community Center was built by black people for black people during segregation. We have now opened it to the entire community and have integrated the board.

Lincoln University, founded by black Civil War veterans, at a time when it was illegal to teach a black person to read, was integrated by the U.S. Supreme Court in the 1950s. We now have invited LU officials back into our Rotary clubs.

We have taken small steps toward creating interhuman harmony in Jefferson City, but I believe that they are in the right direction.
