Election Results

March 10th, 2009

In your article listing Brown grads who prevailed in last fall's elections, you failed to mention William Tong '95, who was re-elected, unopposed, to the Connecticut House of Representatives from District 147 ("One Alum, One Vote" Elms, January/February). When he was elected to his first term, in 2006, he became the first Asian American elected to state office in Connecticut.

I was disappointed to see only those alumni who had won public office represented in "One Alum, One Vote." In particular, Joshua Segall '01 ran a courageous, honorable campaign against almost impossible odds in the race for Alabama's Third Congressional District. When Josh started his campaign, no one gave him a chance. He faced a well-financed incumbent. By the end, Josh had pulled within 5 percentage points of his opponent. Although Josh didn't win, he was an active part of the renewed national conversation about our country's values and priorities.
