You heard them here first. Last semester the twenty-five students in the songwriting course Music 450 produced a two-cd collection of original music. The songs defy easy categorization. Anna Aufseeser '09 described her song "Cracks" as "OpNiPop" (Optimistic Nihilistic Pop music). "It's a fast-paced, funky danceable tune with creepy minor chord progressions and lots of black keys," she wrote in the liner notes. Senior J. G. Boccella's bouyant "I've Come a Long Way" celebrates his return to Brown after a twenty-year break. Associate Professor of Music Joseph Rovan and Dean of the College Katherine Bergeron taught the class and contributed a song of their own, and Rovan mixed the cd. Lyrics and cds are available at www.soundidea.org/music450
