Skilled and Beautiful

The BAM could do better in describing the professional accomplishments of the late Libby Newsom Mohr '61 (Classes photo, November/December).

The recipient of the 1960 writing prize at Pembroke, Libby later became head of the Atlanta Public Library and a friend of Ted Turner and Andrew Young. She fund-raised for the Atlanta College of Art and was active in the Brown Alumni Association. She even was once on the cover of Glamour.

At Pembroke she placed second in the Miss Rhode Island contest. She asked me to accompany her to the Biltmore because she believed I would remain sufficiently sardonic throughout. Sarah Palin she was not, nor I Todd. The dumpy Miss Cranston, who won, had a retinue of 100 persons. Clearly, the contest was fixed.
