A Head For Soccer

September 17th, 2010

I was pleased to read the excellent article regarding Brown's soccer teams in the July/August issue ("Adding to the Past," Sports). I'm proud to say that I was a member of the 1945 team. That year Brown won the Ivy League championship with ten wins and one tie.

We played on the soccer field only a couple of hundred yards from the football stadium, and we could hear the roar of the crowd watching the football game. Few people watched us play. My roommate Tom Kavazanjian '47 was probably the halfback carrying the football. My own eighty-four-year-old skull headed a lot of soccer balls in its youth.
