Is it too late to say how sad it made me to read the March/April cover text (on how bats "could help us get bin Laden"), not to mention the numerous references to Brown's apparent pride in "revolutionizing how we fight wars" in the article itself?

I gather that Brown's biologists and neuroscientists—like many U.S. scientists in the private sector—are at least partially funded by defense department research money, and maybe it's a good wake-up call for this antiwar boomer graduate. But I'm still saddened to know that the value of a Brown education may have been transformed to increasing our country's military prowess rather than searching for peaceful solutions and technologies.
