This class of 1963 Pembroker recalls no such thing as an Ivy Day on the Pembroke campus by the fall of 1959 (“Lightin’ Up,” Classes, May/June).  If the scene in the photograph on page 47 had occurred then, it would have been the end of Scut Day, as seniors prepared to stand by their scuts (freshmen) around the oval Pembroke Green and light the candles one by one. Done at night in the fall, it was an impressive sight.

Neither Ivy Day nor Scut Day survived modern times and the merger with Brown, but I can assure you Ivy Day died out before the fall of 1959.
