I didn’t know if I was reading a Brown parody or a sincere letter from the reader who argued that the BAM should not accept a paid advertisement from an oil company because she had a different point of view about the advisability of developing tar sands energy (“Oily Ad,” Mail Room, March/April).

Her opinion might be a valid one (and one with which I tend to agree), but someone should tell this Brown parent that universities are about exploring different points of view; they are not about restricting speech. What kind of academic experience would that be!
