The photo of 1972’s Spring Weekend in the March/April issue brought back fond memories, but the caption below the picture is not quite accurate (“Bum-Rush,” Classes). While we did have some gate-crashers and a threat to cancel the afternoon concert, the two weren’t related.

The Youngbloods were playing last and late, and the promoter with whom we worked did not want to pay overtime for the security crew. The band let the crowd know that; coins were thrown on stage, and the music continued. (I was the stage manager.)

The next problem was that the sound crew wanted to take some of its equipment to Meehan for that night’s show. The Youngbloods still kept playing, with their drummer keeping the beat until the last electric cord was removed from the stage.
