The University named James Miller ’73 dean of admission;  he was previously dean of admissions and financial aid at Bowdoin, and had earlier served as Brown’s executive director of capital giving.… The Annual Fund had a  record-breaking year, raising more than $25 million, a nearly 10 percent increase over the previous academic year.... The Independent Press Association named The College Hill Independent the best independent campus publication of the year for groups with an annual budget exceeding $10,000.... Brown ranked fifteenth in the U.S. News & World Report college rankings, down from thirteenth last year.… Newsweek named Brown “hottest for self-directed learning” in its list of twenty-five “hot schools.”
