During a November 8 win against Yale, wide receiver Lonnie Hill ’06 joined Stephen Campbell ’01 and Princeton’s Michael Lerch as the only Ivy players to catch four touchdown passes in a game; two weeks later at Columbia, tailback Nick Hartigan ’06 finished the year with 1,498 yards, a new Ivy record for sophomores. The Bears ended the season 5–5 overall and 4–3 in the Ivies, good enough for a second-place tie with Harvard, Yale, and Dartmouth.… Tennis player Stephanie Falconi ’06 beat Rutgers’s number-one singles player at the ITA Regional Championships in October before losing in a close contest to Virginia’s top competitor.… At the National Indoor Tennis Championships in November, Jamie Cerretani ’04 and Adil Shamasdin ’05 startled Texas A&M, the country’s top-ranked team, by hanging tough in a tight 8–4 loss; the pair defeated UC Irvine, the nation’s fourth-ranked team, and Texas Christian before losing to Tyler.… Phil Estes, the football coach with Brown’s second-best winning percentage, agreed to a multiyear contract extension.… The men’s hockey team, led by goalie Yann Danis ’04, opened its season by roaring into first place in the ECAC; coach Roger Grillo and his staff were named the American Hockey Coaches Association coaching staff of the month for November.… The New England Patriots activated wide receiver Chas Gessner ’03 in mid-November, and wide receiver Sean Morey ’99 played on special teams for the Philadelphia Eagles, bringing to fourteen the number of active NFL players from the Ivy League.… Women’s soccer took third place in the Ivies with a 4–3 record (10–4–2 overall); Sarah Gervais ’04, Julie Herrold ’04, and Michaela Sewall ’04 were elected All-Ivy, while Kathryn Moos ’07 was named Rookie of the Year.… Field hockey finished the season 11–6 overall, ending up fourth in the Ivies with a 4–3 league record; Lizzie Buza ’04, Meaghan Harwood ’04, and Laurel Pierpont ’04 were named All-Ivy.… Men’s water polo had a 10–12 season and finished sixth at the Northern Division Championships.… Hockey goaltender Pam Dreyer ’03 won her first gold medal with the U.S. Women’s Select Team after blocking ninety-nine of 101 shots on goal during the 2003 Four Nations Cup in November.… Former rowing-team captain Rachel Anderson ’00 was named the U.S. Rowing 2003 Female Athlete of the Year.… Former volleyball star Jessica Cooper ’03 was named NCAA Rhode Island Woman of the Year.
