On April 22, viewers got their first look at Under the Laurentide, a new sculpture by Maya Lin that now sits at the east entrance plaza of the Building for Environmental Research and Training (BERT). Etched by hand from a circular slab of Chelmsford stone at the nearby Riverside Stone Company, Laurentide depicts the topography of Narrangansett Bay as it was shaped by the Laurentide Ice Sheet that once covered most of North America. Water flows over the face of the sculpture, spilling over its edges and then cycling back to the top.
