On September 28, the Brown Alumni Association held its nineteenth annual alumni-recognition ceremony on campus. Awards were given, according to the evening's printed program, to alumni and parents "who, through their volunteer or professional work, inspire all alumni to advance the common good and to contribute to the greatness of Brown." Among the most prestigious honors were the William Rogers Award, which is given to an alum whose service to society encompasses a life described in the Brown Charter as one of "usefulness and reputation"; the John Hope Award, which recognizes exceptional public service; and the H. Anthony Ittleson '60 Award, given by the Brown Annual Fund to alumni fund-raising leaders. The Brown Bear, Alumni Service, the Young Alumni Service, and the Spotlight are among the awards that recognize outstanding and wide-ranging service to Brown.
