As work on Rhode Island Hall nears completion, a crane returns the Goddard Gate to its posts. The gate honors William Goddard, chancellor from 1888 to 1907, who lived across George Street in what is now Maddock Alumni Center. Quoting the Roman poets, the inscription describes Goddard as "Integer Vitae" (having lived a blameless life) and "singulare humanitate" (of exceptional kindness), says University Curator Robert Emlen.
