At the Tony Awards on June 5, actress Laura Linney '86 and composer David Yazbek '82 once again came close - but still went home emptyhanded. Linney was nominated for her performance in the Biltmore Theater's revival of Donald Margulies's play Sight Unseen. Last nominated for The Crucible in 2002, Linney plays a woman whose life is upended when her egocentric former college lover, played by Ben Schenkman, resurfaces. New York Times critic Ben Brantley called her performance incandescent: "Anyone who has followed Ms. Linney's increasingly impressive career onstage (The Crucible) and in film (You Can Count on Me, Mystic River) should make a point of seeing her here," he urged. Move fast, though; the show closes July 25.

David Yazbek wrote the score to the musical Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, which received eleven nominations, including best musical and best original score. But The Light In the Piazza swept this year's Tonys, eclipsing Yazbek's score, as The Producers did his Full Monty score in 2001.
