Lealah Pollock ’04, a family health provider at UC-San Francisco, had to pause her BAM interview when a hotline call came in. A provider in a red state had a question on when to place an IUD after a medication abortion. “This hotline makes me feel less isolated,” the practitioner told Pollock. Another, practicing “deep in the Bible Belt,” told Pollack she doesn’t have colleagues she can trust with abortion- and miscarriage-related questions. Launched in June and funded by the state of California, the hotline handles a variety of sexual and reproductive health questions. In the face of increasing restrictions on reproductive health and the rise of maternity care deserts across the U.S., Pollack says her team hopes to be “a clinical safety net,” minimizing the need for referrals and enhancing outcomes. Providers can access the hotline at reprohh.ucsf.edu or 1-844-ReproHH
