Katharine Powell '99, left, played the idealistic Emma Joseph this fall in Amy Herzog's drama After the Revolution at Playwrights Horizons in New York City. The New York Daily News called her "Anne Hathaway-pretty, fresh out of law school and marching for justice to the longstanding Marxist traditions of her Village family." Emma, who has created a legal foundation in memory of her late grandfather, a Communist who denied his leftist politics under oath, is disillusioned when she learns he sold U.S. secrets to Stalin. Worse still is her discovery that other members of her family, including her sister, Jess (played by Meredith Holzman, right) knew the truth about his treachery and didn't care.
