Baseball + Time

July 2nd, 2014

I enjoyed the article on David Grabiner, the operations analyst for the New York Yankees. (“The Quantitative Fan,” Sports, May/June). For those of us who played baseball in the dark ages, it is mind-boggling that baseball statistics have become so sophisticated, and that so many stats, which I thought were important measures of success in baseball, are virtually meaningless.

There is another Brown alumnus who has made a name for himself in Major League Baseball, Eric Nadel ’72. Eric has been a broadcaster for the Texas Rangers for more than thirty years. Later this summer, he will be inducted into the broadcaster wing of the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., in recognition of his outstanding career. Several of his classmates who remember listening to Eric broadcast hockey on WBRU will be attending the ceremony.
