Undefeated in the Ivy League, men’s soccer won their nineteenth Ivy title and an automatic bid to the NCAA College Cup. The fourth-ranked Bears finished 15–1–1 overall.… Women’s cross-country placed third at the Ivy League Heptagonal championship, its highest finish in seven years. Smita Gupta ’08 finished sixth overall with a time of 17:46, and Ariel Wright ’10 was seventh at 17:48—the third and fourth fastest times in Brown history. Both earned first-team All- Ivy honors…. Men’s cross-country placed sixth at the Heps, with 136 points. Christian Escareno ’10 finished ninth, covering the course in 25:03…. Football finished third in the Ivies with a 30–22 win over Columbia in mid-November. Steve Morgan ’08, a semifinalist for the Draddy Trophy, eclipsed the Ivy record of 290 career kicking points.… Joe Paterno ’50 will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame…. Men’s ice hockey captain Sean Hurley ’08 was unanimously named to both the coaches’ and the media’s preseason All-ECAC teams…. Men’s water polo advanced to the Northern Division Championship and squared off against St. Francis, which won, 14–10. The second-place finish qualifies the Bears for the Eastern Championship.
