The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum named longtime Texas Rangers radio broadcaster Eric Nadel '72 a finalist for the Ford C. Frick Award for excellence in baseball broadcasting; the winner will be announced December 7 and will be inducted into the Hall of Fame next summer.... In October, the San Francisco 49ers placed tight end Colin Cloherty '09 on its practice squad; Cloherty and New York Giants long snapper Zak DeOssie '07 are the only two alumni active in the NFL.... Alicia Sacramone '10 took another leave from Brown to return to international gymnastics competition; at the world championships in October she beat a sixteen-year-old Russian to win a gold medal on the vault, becoming one of only three female U.S. gymnasts to win nine medals at worlds.... Kyle Newhall-Caballero '11 was named a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation's William V. Campbell Trophy, better known as the "Academic Heisman."... Colorado Rapids midfielder Jeff Larentowicz '05 was named to the 2010 Major League Soccer All-Star team; it was his first all-star selection after six years of major league play.... After earning his tenth shutout of the season against Cornell on October 23, soccer goalkeeper Paul Grandstrand '10 became Brown's all-time season-shutouts leader. On Halloween, the Bears were 10–3–2.
