Defending Catholic Teaching

April 25th, 2013

As a casual reader of the BAM (my father and other relatives attended Brown), I was disappointed to read David Christensen’s letter excoriating this magazine for its audacity in printing an article about a Brown alumnus who was involved in supporting the teachings of the Catholic Church (“Disappointed,” Mail Room, January/February). Since he does not share these beliefs, he apparently feels that one of the world’s great religions should be exorcized from the Brown community. If his intolerant views of mainstream America are indicative of faculty thinking in general, then parents would be extremely foolish to spend over $200,000 to send their kids to Brown for four years of left-wing indoctrination. They would be wiser to give their kids this money and send them to the cheapest community college they could find.
